"I believe the default mechanism in human beings is love. Everything after that is taught." - Sean Foley
Acclaimed PGA Golf Coach, Sean Foley, joins The Brink of Midnight Podcast with John Brenkus.
Sean Foley is one of the most impactful PGA golf coaches of all time. He's coached some the world's best from Steven Ames, to Sean O'Hair, Lee Westwood, Hunter Mahan, Justin Rose, Tiger Woods, Si Woo Kim, and Danny Willett, in addition to coaching the Canadian Junior Golf Association.
Sean's style isn't like any coach you've had. He combines his impeccable understanding of physics and biomechanics with philosophy, and he has a refreshing take on how thoughts and curiosity impact our daily life. He introduces the idea of having an immune system that deals with thought viruses just like our immune system deals with biological viruses. Sean also puts the power to revoke our estimation of a situation and it's consequent suffering into our hands.
A former freestyle rapper, he's a devoted East Coast hip hop fan, and listeners get a taste of that when John puts Sean on the spot to freestyle later in the conversation!
Sit back, grab your notepad, and get ready to step into Coach Sean's flow…his outlook is contagious!
SEAN'S WORDS OF WISDOM
"I don't think I've ever had any goals. I think that goals, to be honest with you, can be limiting because I think we're all these divine beings and incredible."
"I think goals are a setback on what's possible."
"I believe the default mechanism in human beings is love. Everything after that is taught."
"What if you realize that happiness is temporary and always has been? It doesn't come from outside of you. You're born with it, but we're also born with a mind and consciousness that rides a roller coaster."
"At the end of the day, you're only capable of feeling your OWN thinking. the difficulty of thought …. to me the most powerful thing that you can learn is that when it feels like the whole world is caving in around you, it's only your thoughts and feelings - it's not actually what's happening."
"Social media platforms will make you think that there is more negative in the world."
"This is the easiest time to be a human."
"I've always been a 'why' guy."
"Diversity creates the highest level of education you can have."
"All we're afraid of is what we've created to be afraid of."
"Reality and truth are totally separate."
"It's more important to be curious than passionate."
"We need to be looking more at how we're training than how we're performing."
